Thursday, May 19 - Hidden Gardens of Beacon Hill
Betty-Jo, Carol, Louise, and Pat had a fantastic day in the city. It was the best weather I can remember ever having on tour day! The clouds and breeze kept us cool, and there was not a single drop of rain. We saw many, many gardens and also toured lots of first floors of the homes, as well as several "ribbon gardens" where you get to peek in through the entrance. Our great day finished with a fantastic lunch at Betty-Jo's favorite lunch spot Figs! We sat at the bar and had great service, pizza, and salads.

May 14-15 - Brimfield Flea Markets
Pat and Carol had a fabulous day! Weather was absolutely perfect for walking and browsing. We were on the hunt for a stool or two. We found lots of stools, but none of them was quite right, so we're still looking, and if you come across one (or two), please let Pat know. We had a great lunch on the way home at the Cedar Street Grille in Sturbridge - highly recommended! Pam and Jackie also had a wonderful day on Thursday! Lots of shopping and Favorite idea: rather than sit in traffic at the end of the day, take a break for beer and people watching, before shopping some more and hitting the road.

Thursday April 23, 2015 with Anita Shreve
Louise and Carol had a wonderful evening with author Anita Shreve. The author gave a very interesting talk at the Wareham Public Library, followed by Q&A and a book signing. It was fascinating to hear about her writing process and all the background investigating she does for each historical novel she writes. Anita makes sure every detail, down to the smallest thing, is accurate - no easy task. We got our books signed and then headed to the Kittansett Club in Marion for cocktails and dinner with Anita, where she spoke to us again. It was a fabulous event! Favorite idea: ???

July 30- August 3 Martha Lawrence Basket Workshop
For
the past thirty years, Martha Lawrence has been creating lightship
baskets. Her work is found in collections both in the United States and
abroad and was selected to be in a Smithsonian exhibition of American
crafts at the 1996 Olympics. The 1990 publication of her book, "The
Lightship Baskets of Nantucket," established her as an authority on
historic and contemporary baskets and is considered today to be a
definitive publication on lightship baskets. In addition to creating
baskets, Martha teaches workshops at art associations and basket
gatherings around the country.

Thursday, May 17 - Hidden Gardens of Beacon Hill
The Beacon Hill garden tour is always good, but this year was exceptionally great! Great weather, great friends, and great gardens and homes made the day really special. Even the guidebook was better than ever. We liked that the map was large enough to read without glasses, and that the ticket was on the back cover so we didn't have to juggle two separate booklets. Betty-Jo, Carol, Kate, Louise, and Pam all had a wonderful time walking up and down Beacon Hill. Check out our photos. Favorite idea(s): boot scrapers on steps, and a closet made into a desk.

Tuesday, May 1, 2012 - 21 Cypress Road
Louise, Kate, and Carol went out to the latest flip in Wellesley to see the "before." Another amazing Canavan project! The photos say it all! Favorite idea: plant rescue!

Friday Dec 9, 2011 - Brockton House Tour
The Brockton Garden Club did a great job decorating for this tour. The original owners built a small house for themselves behind the main house which they gave/sold to their daughter and her family. The house(s) were well decorated and there were lots of references in the main house especially, to the shoe business so prevalent in Brockton history. Favorite idea: trees made from plastic bags and chicken wire.

Tuesday November 22 - Bread Swap
Saturday, November 12, 2011
Thurs Nov 3 - 21 Cypress Road
Betty-Jo, Pam, Pat and Carol got a sneak peak at Kate and Joe's latest project in Wellesley. We enjoyed meeting the homeowner (seller) Margaret and getting all the inside information about the home from her - from the gum wood trim to all her paintings. Margaret invited us to come back again anytime. Favorite idea: a small room that starts out as a nursery and years later makes the perfect studio.

There were 35 pieces by invited artists and 35 juried pieces. The baskets were unique and contructed from all sorts of materials, including zip ties! Photos of a few of them are here. Favorite idea: basket shoes!

Monday October 10 - Rags to Bags
Everyone who participated loved this event! It was a lot of fun to make the bags, and it felt really good to use up fabric scraps that were small and insignificant, yet too pretty to be pitched. This project was the perfect solution! It reminded me of my grandmother who was the original recycler - she made braided rugs out of old wool clothing, reused the wax paper bags inside cereal boxes to store things, put oval patches on jacket elbows, and never bought a pad of notepaper because she reused envelopes and the backs of greeting cards and such for her grocery lists and notes. Favorite idea: work like an assembly line - first cut all pieces, then sew all sides, then all handles, etc.
